The Meaning Of Meditation

The meaning of meditation has always been misunderstood and oversimplified. At one time or another, we’ve all seen programs, books, seminars, CDs, etc., that all claim to teach us the meaning of meditation. Here’s a look at what some people mean when they say the words.

When most people think of meditation they think of pain relief, and relaxation techniques. So they put on a CD or DVD and take a couple of minutes to be mentally relaxed. Then they are supposed to repeat phrases like, “I am comfortable in my body,” or “I am completely comfortable with myself.”

Meditation Is A Perfect Way To Relax

It sounds like an easy way to relax, doesn’t it? But the fact is, this is not the true meaning of meditation.

What is the true meaning of meditation? For many years the true meaning of meditation was unknown. Nobody knew what was in a person’s mind when they were meditating. For centuries, cultures and religions have practiced meditation, without really knowing what it was all about.

Now, however, thanks to technology and science, we know that our physical and spiritual realm are closely connected. The concepts of meditation are similar to that of spiritual counseling. That is, the practitioner seeks to find out more about the person, what the person wants, what they are afraid of, and even what they are afraid of not being able to accomplish.

Now we understand what meditation is, it is only natural that we try to translate that into something that is easier to understand, like “meditation means relaxation.” That is what most people want to know. If it can be translated in that manner, they think that they have found the meaning of meditation.

The Real Meaning Of Meditation

It is very common for an individual to hear a program or a speaker say, “my meditation helps me relax.” Because of the misunderstanding of the meaning of meditation, it is not uncommon for someone to do what the speaker is asking of them. They do not realize that the true meaning of meditation is something else entirely.

The true meaning of meditation is to know yourself, to know your fears, and to find out where your limiting beliefs come from. Once you have found this out, you can then go to work to bring about change, to either eliminate the fear or remove it from your life. That is the true meaning of meditation.

Many people think that they know the true meaning of meditation by applying this definition, but this is not the true meaning of meditation. There are many other things that it can do.

Live To A State Of Harmony

The true meaning of meditation is to live in a state of total harmony, to be at peace with who you are, and to do the right things that are needed. Once you have done those things, you will feel better. Not just you, but everyone around you will notice how well you are doing.

It is through learning to listen to yourself that you are able to begin to listen to the wisdom and guidance that the universe has for you. Once you have learned to do that, you can use the various relaxation techniques to get to the core of your problem. You will then be ready to do what the universe will allow you to do.

At the end of the day, it is not the words that will tell you the true meaning of meditation. It is the peace that comes from doing the right things. If you put that into practice, the universe will reward you with everything that you need to be happy and successful.
